Transition to Free-flow Tolling. April 2008 – October 2009
Logan Alliance (KBR, QML, & BMD Constructions)

The Logan Alliance undertook civil works on Queensland’s Logan and Gateway Extension motorways to allow free-flow tolling. The scope of works included upgrading the motorway interchanges at Heathwood, Loganlea, Kuraby and Larapinta. These motorway interchange upgrades included designing and constructing new on and off ramps and modifying others, as well as upgrading the existing local road intersections with the construction of new roundabouts and a new signalized intersection.
CQA was involved at Heathwood, Loganlea and Kuraby in the following aspects of this project:
-
Geotechnical Testing and Earthwork Supervision for pavement layers, approach embankments and underground services
-
Concrete compliance testing
-
Engineering Investigations, Inspections and Consultation for stability of cut batters and piling for gantry protection barriers
Legacy Way. April 2011 – December 2014 (expected completion date)
Transcity Joint Venture (BMD Constructions, Ghella and Acciona)
Legacy Way is a 4.3km twin-bore toll road tunnel linking the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove. The Transcity joint venture was awarded the contract to design and construct the project, and to operate and maintain Legacy Way for a period of ten years.
Scope includes two parallel twin-lane tunnels that are approximately 12.4m in diameter linked by cross passages every 120m. Construction is anticipated to involve:
- Two 12.4m diameter, 90m long Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs)
- Removal of over 2,000,000 tonnes of rock
- Over 35,000 ring segments in the tunnel walls and over 1,200 concrete piles
- Over 185,000m2 of asphalt laid across the whole project
- Over 60 ventilation fans within the tunnels
- The completion of a new Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens area of over ten hectares including a new pond equivalent to nine Olympic size swimming pools
CQA is involved in the following aspects of this project:
-
Geotechnical Testing for tunnel approach areas and underground services
